Head Ti S6 Review and Playtest

Head is one of the best tennis brands on the market, so it’s always exciting when they release a brand new tennis racket model. This time though, I decided to test their best-selling racket so that I could do a full Head Ti S6 review. It has been in the limelight for a long time and is widely popular amongst tennis players, so as you can imagine, I was very curious about what this noise was all about. 

If you are also considering buying this Head tennis racket, make sure to read my review first, so you’ll know what to expect. I intend to keep this review straightforward and honest, and I do have a lot of things to say about it, so let’s dive in! 

Head Ti S6 Specifications

The first thing I noticed is that the tennis racket Head Ti S6 is big! Everything about it comes in a larger size than the standard. It features a 115 square inches head, one of the market’s largest options. 

It is loaded with power and has a huge sweet spot that is hard to miss, which is perfect for beginners and recreational players. 

The racket’s length is also slightly longer than the usual size, making it easier to contact and control the ball, which again is great for those just starting out in tennis. At only 8.9 ounces, the Head Ti S6 weight is considerably light, which makes it really easy to swing, and comfortable for the arm and shoulder. 

It scores an 8 points head heavy balance, meaning that the weight is distributed towards the head to add more power potential to the racket. However, this feature comes with a big trade-off since heavy head rackets are harder to maneuver in court. 

Head Ti S6 tennis racket is made of graphite and titanium materials that are feathery, light, and very durable. It has a classical, sporty design and comes pre-strung, sparing the players the extra work. This racket is a good tennis racket for beginners that can use all the advantages it has to offer.

Groundstrokes – Score: 8.4

Outstanding power levels and spin potential! That’s what stood out at the Head Ti S6 tennis racket during the groundstroke, where it delivers an amazing performance. In the baseline, this racket excels the most, and it can transform into a true weapon, even at the hands of a less experienced player. 

This racket has a lightweight frame, which is easy to manage and provides full swings. It’s also loaded with crazy levels of effortless power due to its oversized head and the open string pattern. This racket is quite flexible and returns the energy when it comes to contact with the ball, which was one of my favorite features.

It doesn’t have the best feeling ever, but it is very responsive and lively, which I enjoyed throughout the game.

The forehand and backhand slices were a personal favorite, and thanks to the slightly longer length, it was easy to reach for the ball, even at the most difficult angles. There were times when I did wish for some extra weight and added stability to direct the ball better, but overall I think this racket delivered a great performance and easy playability. 

I can see why this is an absolute favorite amongst beginners; it helps the players elevate their skills to a whole other level. 

Volleys – Score: 8.3

Overall, I really liked how the Head Ti S6 tennis racket performed up in the net. It did the work just fine and gave little to complain about. The high level of power made it easy to put volleys away. Because this is a head-heavy racket, I didn’t expect it to be a maneuvrable racket, but it surprised me for the better. 

Thanks to the lightweight frame and slightly extra length, it was relatively easy to manage. This is a well-balanced racket and highly responsive which helped me block the volleys back and keep up with fast exchanges on the net. 

The huge sweet spot was a major bonus, and I could quickly switch up grips.

Throughout the game, it was easy for me to direct the ball during volleys, but only when putting in some extra effort because the racket lacked a bit of control. It was in the net when I also wished that the racket would have some extra weight so that it could be more stable. 

However, suppose you are a beginner or recreational player. In that case, you’ll barely notice these drawbacks because it won’t significantly impact the game unless your opponent has advanced skill levels. 

The more time you’ll spend practicing and playing, the better you’ll connect with this racket, so even if you don’t feel like excelling right away in volleys with this racket, don’t worry; a little patience can get you a long way. 

Serve – Score: 8.3

Serves were another strong point of this racket, where it reached its full potential. The crazy high power level, which is incredibly easy to tap into, made the Head Si T6 tennis racket easy to weaponize. 

It’s well balanced and had a high potential of generating spin, which made my opponent immediately go into a defensive mode. Hitting the slice of flat serves was my absolute favorite thing to do. During serves, I was really grateful for the racket’s extra length, which came in handy and hit the ball at a higher point immediately after a toss, a feature that made the serves effortless. 

I would say that the racket was quite easy to manage, helping to keep the serves low to the ground when needed so that the returns would be more difficult for my opponent. 

The sweet spot was once again a true joy, making this racket very comfortable to play with. The only drawback I could find with the Head Ti S6 racket is the lack of control and stability, which made it often hard to predict where the ball would go or to hit my targets with precision. 

However, this came as no surprise considering the technical specification so I would recommend this racket to beginner levels only, or else it can become a little erratic on the court, making the more advanced players feel out of their element. 

Returns – Score: 8.3

I intend to keep the Head Ti S6 review honest, as promised, so I must admit that I felt let down by this racket during the returns. I had very high expectations, and it simply failed to deliver. 

Even though I wouldn’t say this is the worst to hit returns with, the noticeable lack of control made the whole experience unpleasant. 

I often struggled to keep the ball in the court, which cost me a few precious points, especially when my opponent went for full, powerful serves. The lack of stability also was a major disadvantage, which made the returns difficult. 

In all fairness, this is a beginner’s tennis racket, so big serves are not common at this level, making all these problems significantly less noticeable. If your opponent is also a beginner, this racket will perform just fine, helping you to keep up with slower serves, find your pace and master some new skills and techniques. 

Because it is a lightweight racket, loaded with power makes it easier to hit the returns and generates more than enough topspin for a decent performance. Just like with volleys, you’ll connect better with this racket the more time you spend practicing, so keep going! 

Overall – Score: 8.31

The Head Ti S6 review and playtesting has been one of my favorite experiences so far, which I really enjoyed. This is overall a good tennis racket, and I can see why it has risen in popularity and remained in the limelight for so many years. 

It is loaded with power, has a huge sweet spot, and is quite easy to manage. It works well in all court areas, especially at the baseline when it can turn into a true weapon. 

The Head Ti S6 noticeably lacks control and stability, but these are barely noticeable if you are just starting out fresh in tennis.

Personally, I would not play with it anytime soon (or ever again) because it is intended exclusively for beginners or recreational players. This is probably the best option when starting out in tennis, and you need a racket to learn and practice the main basic techniques and skills. 

I would also recommend it for players recovering from painful injuries or severe tennis elbow inflammation and looking for an extremely comfortable racket to play with. If you have a more advanced skill set, though, even at a low intermediate level, I would recommend looking out for other tennis rackets that are good for intermediate players.

Different Models

What Head Ti S6 racket offers to fresh beginners is priceless, but if you are in more advanced levels, look at alternative designs, and that can be a much better option for you. There are many Head tennis rackets in this headline, but this time we’ll be focusing only on the most popular models. 

Head Ti S5

The Head Ti S5 features a noticeably smaller head size, even though it would still fall in the bigger range side, at 107 square inches. As a result, it provides less power than Head Ti S6, but it continues to be a great option for beginners, recreational players, and low intermediate levels. 

The weight of the Head Ti S5 is even lower than the first model, so expect an extremely lightweight racket; it scores only one less balance point, is more flexible, and has a slightly thinner beam width, which makes this racket much more maneuverable, and easier to swing with.

Head Ti S2

Head Ti S2 is a racket designed mostly for intermediate-level players, even though it can work great for beginners too. It features a 102 square inches head, only two sizes more than it would take to classify as a tweener tennis racket. It has noticeably fewer power levels than Head Ti S6, but it provides far better control and higher levels of stability. 

The frame of Head Ti S2 comes with a denser 18 x 19 string pattern that allows less dwelling time for the ball but provides more topspin. This is a stiffer racket too, that scores lower in the balance point compared to the first model. However, the two rackets still have some similar major attributes, such as being lightweight, the extra length, and the material composition.

The Head Ti S1 is the perfect racket when switching from beginner levels to intermediate. This racket offers a great blend of power and control and generates a greater among of spin, as well. 

It features a 107 square inches head, which is still generous but much smaller compared to Head Ti S6. The differences between these two models are more noticeable since Head Ti S1 is a headlight racket with less power but much more maneuverability. It also has some extra weight to provide more control and stability. 

On the balance scales, it scores only 1 point but still has some extra length similar to Head Ti S6. This racket helps the players be more aggressive, consistent, and fast, which is necessary when leveling up to more advanced skill levels.

The entire Head tennis racket line is made of high-quality materials that are durable and long-lasting, making any of these rackets a smart investment for any player. Any of them will do, but I would recommend Head Ti S6 for absolute beginners; it will give you all the confidence you need to start. 

Even though this is not the racket I would normally choose, it gave an outstanding performance, was very easy to play with, and highlighted all the great features during the playtest.
